Tips and Recommendations for Lucca, Italy
I love to travel, and I love to plan travel. We’ve been lucky enough to visit Italy many times throughout the last eight years. Our favorite place to stay is Lucca in Tuscany. I thought it would be fun to build a page on my website about our experiences in this amazing city. Maybe some of the recommendations can help you with your planning. This page includes details about where we stayed in Lucca.

In 2026, we went to Italy with Scott’s sister, Terrie, and her boyfriend, Matt. We stayed in Lucca most of the time.

Where to stay?
- Paolina’s charming home and secret garden in the center:
First Lucca Home Recommendation
This home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a full kitchen. It has two living areas and opens into a courtyard. I didn’t get a picture of the kitchen, but it’s fully functional. You can see more pictures on Airbnb (link provided above). The location is outstanding, with grocery stores and cafes within walking distance.

I highly recommend this home. The host is really nice and communicates well. The beds are really comfortable, and the home is spacious.
In 2025, just the two of us went to Lucca and stayed for almost a month. This time, we stayed outside the walls in a condo just a short walk from Lucca’s historic center.

2. From Ground to Sky:
Second Lucca Home Recommendation
This condo-style home has 1 bedroom, 1 1/2 baths, and is a short walk from the walls. It has a fully functional kitchen, and it’s in a safe, quiet neighborhood.

This one is really comfortable, but smaller and outside the walls. The host is amazing and responds quickly if needed.
In 2024, we visited Lucca for the first time. For this trip, we needed more space because we brought all our children and one of their partners, a group of six. This meant we required four bedrooms.

3. Historic Villa in Lucca:
Third Lucca Home Recommendation
This historic villa was built in the 19th century and has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully functional and a great place to hang out, cook, eat, and socialize. In summer, there is a pool and an outdoor pizza oven, but we went in the winter. This villa is great for larger groups that need more bedrooms. You won’t find many properties in Lucca with 3-4 bedrooms. I recommend renting a car if you stay here because it is not within walking distance of the historic center of Lucca.

This bedroom was separated from the other 3 and joined a ballroom. I can’t put my finger on exactly why I didn’t like sleeping in this bedroom- maybe the size, lack of heat, or its location in the home. Regardless, the other 3 bedrooms were very comfortable.

The host for this Villa is super nice and communicates well. There is a farm with chickens, and he was often on the property working, but never invaded our space.
